What to do on Lanzarote and Tenerife

National Park Timanfaya

Lanzarote is a unique island because volcanic eruption has removed no less than 11 villages and cities on the island. The ash of the lava is still present and, as it is a national park, you can visit the area that was covered by lava in both 1730-1736 and 1824. The park is called Timanfaya and can be visited with a tour guide or via a bus tour. And not just in the national park can the remains of the volcanic eruption be seen. There a couple of beautiful lava caves that you can enter. And you can even see beaches covered with volcanic stones.

Nature

When you go on a holiday, you should be prepared for the fact that there will be little nature and wildlife because most of it has been swamped by lava. There is, however, a nice cactus garden called Jardin de Cactus. Tenerife too has a volcanic origin, but there is more variety there. You can see the largest volcano, the Pico del Teide, from every point on the island. In winter, you can see the snowy top of the volcano.

Beaches

Of course, there are also a couple of regular beaches that can be visited. That is the reason why both Lanzarote en Tenerife are one of the most popular holiday destinations for sunny summer holidays at the beach. The temperature on both of the islands Lanzarote is nice and comfortable the entire year round. Therefore, there are a good place for a summer holiday of mid-winter break to the sun.

Villages

Even though a lot of the villages have been destroyed when a volcano erupted, both Lanzarote and Tenerife have a couple of nice villages that you can visit. There are some cosy towns and larger villages.

Activities

Tenerife is also an ideal town for biking holidays. We would advise you not to go for a biking holiday in the middle of the summer because the weather will be too hot for biking. But in spring, autumn or even winter you’ll be able to enjoy the biking facilities that Tenerife has. The island is also a challenge for cyclists because of its many turns and hills. Many people come back to Tenerife every year because of these cycle paths.

So both of the islands offer tourists a unique holiday in the sun. The islands have a lot to offer for each kind of holiday maker.
